Women Who Fear The Lord

WOMEN WHO FEAR THE LORD

Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised (Prov.31:30).

I thought of this text a couple of Sundays ago when Helen Rossi celebrated her 99th birthday in our Sunday worship assembly.

The only present Helen sought that day was the presence of her offspring in worship.  Helen is a jewel.  If we all loved the Lord like Helen, our building would be overflowing every Sunday.  In all my years I have never known a woman more godly and loving.

As I write this I am giving thought to a soon-coming funeral.  Thelma Cline is nearing the end of her life on earth.  If she lives through this week she will turn 102.  She is the paternal grandmother to Mark Geiser, a long-time brother in Christ who worships with the Erie congregation.  Thelma has been a faithful Christian for many years, worshipping with the church in New Philadelphia.  Like Helen, one of Thelma’s greatest desires is that her descendants will always remain faithful to the Lord Jesus.

While preparing to appoint another group of elders and deacons to serve our congregation over the next four years, we are cognizant of the value of having good men in leadership positions.  But, we are also quite mindful of THE IMPORTANCE OF WOMEN.

It is true - - “those who rock the cradle really do rule”.  Where would the church be without godly women?  Well, for one thing, we wouldn’t have faithful men to serve as elders and deacons.  So to all of you women who often serve so diligently behind the scenes,

we salute you!  You Christian women are a wellspring of rich spiritual blessings to us all.  Let us thank God for our faithful ladies!
