Lesson #1 - The Body In Motion
Series: The One-Another WayLESSON #1 – THE BODY IN MOTION
WHAT MAKES US TICK?
1. What or WHO is it that gives life to the church?
~ He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. He is also the head of the body, the church...
cf. Col.1:17-18 with Eph.5:23b.
~ He provides the leadership and orchestration as well as the life-blood and heartbeat.
When we are baptized into Christ Jesus the Lord adds us to His church (Acts 2:41b & 47b).
~ Apart from (Him), we can do nothing (Jn.15:5).
He is THE VINE and we are but branches.
Through Him who strengthens us, we can do all things (Philp.4:13).
Without a concentrated focus on Christ, our own selfish interests will only do damage to the body.
WHAT MAKES US STICK?
2. What provides the cohesion (the glue) to keep the body ONE?
~ Here again it is THE ONE in whom we are rooted - - Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior.
~ God has ordained that the body be filled with diversity and difference.
No two of us are exactly alike.
~ Yet, God directs that in our diversity we seek to have strong unity.
Note 1Cor.12:12 / For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and
all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also in Christ.
~ Though blessed with a variety of functions we must strive to be ONE in Christ (Rom.12:2-5).
We must be constantly vigilant to not allow selfishness to intrude and threaten our unity.
I say to every one of you: do not think of yourself more highly that you ought... (Rom.12:3/NIV).
~ So we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another (Rom.12:5).
3. Describe the concept often referred to as a “symbiotic relationship”?
4. How would you define “synergy”?
5. How important is it to have the mind/attitude of Christ and how do we acquire such?
cf. 1Cor. 2:16 and Philp.2:5ff
P On deck" In future lessons in this series we will explore the many and varied one-another passages
in the New Testament - - Scriptures that obligate us to treat others and care for others in the Jesus way.
